USB Connection causing re-boot

Post by isablend »

Anyone had re-boot issues when connecting disk-drive to USB port? I'm on the latest firmware and have been attempting to connect a 2Tb USB drive to the USB port to enable use as a shared media drive for my home network. Connection and setup seems to work fine, but when I attempt to copy a large volume of data over to the new location it causes the router to re-boot. Not ideal from a media store. Anyone experienced something similar or have comment about the configuration that should be used to avoid it?

I'm connecting a 'WD My Passport Portable Hard Drive - 2 TB' device.

Thanks in advance.

What was the model number of the router you are using, and firmware/software version you are using??

How big was the file you transferred??

Is the HD formatted to NTFS??

Its a BiPAC 8900ax-2400 running firmware version 2.52.d12

The drive is NTFS formatted.

The files I tried to transfer weren't large in individual size, circa 3-4Mb each but I was doing a copy/paste of approx 15,000. It was at the point of paste that the re-boot of the router occurred.

Can you try setting up a syslog server so we can capture the logs before the reboot occurs, so we can investigate

Attached is a guide on how to setup a syslog server, once done email support@billion.uk.com and attach your syslog file for investigation.

Ok, tried to re-create the situation with the syslog server capturing logs and it's not happening....

Only difference I can see if that I have since the failure setup a mapped drive rather than connecting dynamically. Could that cause such an effect? I'm loathed to undo my setup (now that it works) so will accept it as is.

Thanks for your help.

I don't think it will make a difference as the IP address of the router/USB connected drive stays the same.

But if its working for you mapped, there is nothing to worry about.
