Using Google DNS instead of ISP provided one on 8800AXL R2

Post by harry66 »

Hi,

Apologies for the dumb question...

I want to change my DNS to Google rather than the PlusNet one on my 8800AXL R2

I went into Configuration->LAN and un-ticked 'Use Router's setting as DNS Server' and then set Primary DNS server 8.8.8.8 and Secondary DNS server 8.8.4.4

I then restarted the router - but when I check the Status page it still shows the old value of 212.159.6.9 and 10

I checked Config->LAN again and the Primary and Secondary DNS are set to 8.8.8.8 and 4.4 - so clearly the settings were saved.

So, I then checked the user manual and it shows too many confusing options - I am not an expert at this kind of stuff - and I don't want to change the wrong setting and mess things up.

Can someone please provide the simplest way of changing the DNS to Google DNS?

Thanks in advance.

Use the 'Advanced Setup >> DNS >> DNS >> Use the following Static DNS IP address' option, once set check the 'Status' page for the 'Primary DNS Server/Secondary DNS Server it should show google DNS servers
