Bipac 7800N - One-To-One NAT

Post by dale303 »

we're replacing our old Bridgemode Router with a Bipac 7800N (as that's the router I run at home).

We have a router IP address of 222.222.222.97 and a server IP address of 222.222.222.98 (the only two IPs we were assigned). As I said the old router is set up in Bridge mode. We're replacing it because we want to use NAT, wifi and port mapping so I need to set the Bipac up in NAT mode.

However, this now means our server can no longer be seen on 222.222.222.98. Of course I could always repoint the A and MX records to 222.222.222.97 but I'd like if possible to keep the server on 222.222.222.98.

a) How do I go about this?
b) Are we looking at the One-To-One NAT functionality?

Let's say my server is now on an internal IP 192.168.1.1 (instead of 222.222.222.98 in Bridged mode)
I've set up One-To-One NAT so that global IP is 222.222.222.98 and is now pointing to internal 192.168.1.1
but port mapping is not behaving as expected. In fact all ports are open and I need to block all except the essentials.

Anything else I need to do?

Try setting up a firewall rule (packet filtering rule) to block all incoming connection (drop) to the IP address of the server (leave internal ports and external blank so it should block everything) and then setup more rules to allow connections /ports in the direction that is needed for your server. (ports should be set as internal ports, leave external ports blank)
