hi there,
i have a 7800N updated to firmware version 1.06h and am connecting to sky fibre.
If i run a speedtest using a wired connection i get approx 20Mbps whilst the same test over my wireless network returns a result of 3 - 4 Mbps and sometimes under 1 on both my laptop and mobile.
using a wifi analyser suggests that the currently selected channel (1) is the least congested channel for my location. my wifi signal strength is excellent as the router is only in the next room.
is there something that i can do to help increase my wifi throughput ? sometimes it's painful watching web pages load transporting me back to the days of using a dial-up modem.
would things be better if i upgraded to the 7800DXL ? i'm pretty sure that things weren't this bad until i ugraded to firmware version 1.06h when i got fibre.
any suggestions gratefuly received.
thanks in advance.
very slow wireless

Try changing the channel width to 20mhz, and make sure your wireless security is set to WPA2 AES. Also what is the connection speed like when you check the status of your wireless adaptor?mrdo23 wrote:hi there,

Re: very slow wireless
sorry to re-open an old(ish) thread but i'm still having issues.
still getting internet speeds of approx. 2-4 Mbps via my wireless connection when a wired connection gives 20Mbps +.
i've checked my router and applying the fixes that you suggested has raised my speed slightly but it's still pretty poor.
does anyone have any suggestions ?
thanks in advance

Re: very slow wireless
You could try changing channels using http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ together with its Link Score as other users, overlapping or with similar RSSI values to yours can have anomalous effects.
As you have changed the router to 20MHz, I'm not sure if setting up the wireless adapter to match would have any difference - but you can do this via Device Manager/Network adapters - right click on the wireless adapter and select Properties.
Under the Advanced tab select Bandwidth then use the dropdown to change.
Logging into the router and changing the Wireless Mode to just 802.11n can help if you have other devices connecting using an older Protocol such as 802.11g which can slow down your speed.
With any device, drivers can have a major impact on performance and going to your computer vendor's support site to check for any updates or to just reinstall the driver.
Download the driver selecting Save then go into Device Manager/Network adapters and right click on the wireless adapter - select Uninstall and check the box to include software then without rebooting, go to your Downloads to unpack the .zip and locate the Setup Application to reinstall.
That's about all I can think of at the moment as to other suggestions, but hope they are of help.

Re: very slow wireless
Thought I'd put this in - but you could also try changing your Power Plan to High Performance.

Re: very slow wireless
Are the speeds back to where they should be or have they just improved on the slow speeds that you were getting ?
And you're welcome
