LAN from WLAN

Post by john_billion »

Hi,
Occasionally i have not been able to access my NAS through the WLAN. If I restarted the NAS, connectivity was restored.

Today when it occured again, i noticed that the NAS was available via a PC on the LAN, although i could not even ping it from the WLAN. The same went for my IP cameras: i was able to view them on my phone via ddns, but not via their local ip. I could however view them on the LAN via a PC.

Strangely, Fing showed the nas when i ran it on my phone, but when i attempted to scan it's services, it was unable to show any ports open.

So i restarted the Bipac (7800dkl with 2.32c; wireless 6.30.102.7.cpe4.12L08.4), and immediately connectivity was restored.

Have i got a bad router? This never occured with the old netopia router that i have been running for years. I have the Bipac for a couple of weeks.
The Nas is plugged directly into LAN Port 3 on the router, the rest of my lan is plugged into Port 1
Regards
John

I wonder if it will be 'better' if you give the NAS a static IP?

FWIW when I swapped my old Netgear for the Billion I had to use Zyxel's own "discovery" finder to reset the IP on it as the Netgear I had a changed default IP! So rather than get the Billion to serve up what could be a changing IP to the NAS via the DHCP server I used the static IP so the same may help you? Also means that I can always(?) find it easily using the IP in the web browser ;)

Thanks Searcher,

yes my nas does have a static ip, as do the ip cameras and the rpi, outside the dhcp range. The pcs, tabs and phones are getting static ips from the dhcp server by their mac addresses.
Could the bipac be having trouble with arp?

Same thing again this morning.
Can't access Lan from WLAN. I gave the IP cameras a static lease from the bipac, and turned them back to automatic dhcp. I can see them in the dhcp status and in the arp status, and can connect from the LAN, but not from the wireless side.
I can connect to the cameras via ddns from the wireless.
Will try restart on the Bipac.
Yes, connectivity restored, I can see the ip cameras via the wireless using their lan address.
Group interface is default and shows all lan interfaces and wireless

This problem is still going on randomly: after a couple of days without any sign of it, today the wireless side wouldnt connect to the lan side again.
A router restart solved it.
Is anyone from Billion about?

This is a strange issue, does the wireless devices have any issues browsing the internet?? Can the wireless devices connect to the web gui when the issue occurs??

Have you tried to change the wireless 'Bandwidth' to 20mhz found under the advanced page for the wireless band.

Hi billion_fan,

No problems accessing internet from the wireless net, just the equipment on the lan.
I will check if i can get the bipac gui next time it happens, but i think yes.
Have checked the logs and can see nothing unusual.

Are the devices using a static IP via the router using the 'Static IP Lease List' function under LAN?? or are do they have a fixed IP set within the device?

Originally they had statis ips set within themselves outside of the dhcp range of the router, but i changed them all to get a static ip from the bipac when i discovered this problem.
By the way, can i give the static ips set in the static ip lease list a different lease time from those served up by the dhcp server?
Would the bipac not connect properly if the static ips were set in the device and excluded from the dhcp range? The old netopia router had no worries about it.
Thanks for your assistance.

No you can't give the devices in the static IP lease list a different lease time from the DHCP server.

Yes the Bipac will connect to the devices that are outside the DHCP range, (worth a try to try the static IP lease list) (do you have anything listed within the static ARP section)

This is really a strange one, we know they are connected to the internet, as the LAN can connect, and via wireless they can connect using DDNS, so its very strange.

Let me know about the web gui connectivity when the issue occurs :D
