As title really. I have been using my 7800N on Sky ADSL for a couple of years and have just placed an order for Sky fibre as it has become available in my area. I know that previously an Openreach modem was installed that can be used with the appropriate firmware on the 7800, however as Sky now offer "self-install" I will be receiving one of their new hubs the SR102.
Will I be able to use this as a modem only and allow the 7800 to manage everything which is what I would like to happen?
Will the 7800N work with Sky SR102 hub

1. Check to see if the SR102 can be switched to modem mode (which I don't think it can from other user reports)
2. Plug your 7800N (EWAN mode) to the SR102 and DMZ the IP the 7800N gets in the SR102

Thanks for the info. Are there any negatives or issues to be aware off using the DMZ option?
Also does the address have to be assigned by the DCHP server on the SR102 or can I specify it manually as long as it is on the same range and subnet?

The DMZ option you will be behind double NAT, but DMZ should open all ports the 7800DXLmilanonick wrote:Thanks for the info. Are there any negatives or issues to be aware off using the DMZ option?

You can specify a manual address, it should be fine (outside the DHCP range to avoid IP conflicts)

Thanks for your help, I'll give it a try.
Unless one of the current Billion range can connect directly to Sky fibre without their equipment?

An option for you might be to pick up a BT fibre modem from a well known auction site & extract the Sky username/password from the SR102 using Wireshark & replace it by the modem & the Billion.

Sorry to hijack a thread, but I just got my sky fibre connected today and I'd like to try and get this setup. Could you provide more detail on how to do option 2? I'm not a complete novice, I have updated the 7800N firmaware, retrieved and entered the sky p/w and u/n, and set the router to EWAN but the advanced configuration is beyond my technical abilities. Currently I have the 7800N connected via the EWAN port to the sky sr102 hub. I can connect to the net through this wired configuration and also by wifi to the 7800N but I haven't done anything regards the DMZ.billion_fan wrote:You have two optionsmilanonick wrote:As title really. If you can provide steps I need to follow to set that up I'd be really grateful.

Login to the 7800N and check the WAN IP that is assigned from the Sky modem/router (should be a internal address eg 192.168.x.x)be4con wrote:Sorry to hijack a thread, but I just got my sky fibre connected today and I'd like to try and get this setup. Then you login to your sky modem/router and set this IP address into DMZ (I don't have a SR102 so you might want to check the manual or web interface for the DMZ feature)

Ah, ok, I misunderstood, I thought I had to set the DMZ on the billion. OK, will I need to set the SR102 with a fixed IP too?
