FTTC again!
I am having FTTC connected next week. I live in a village over a mile away from the exchange and I suspect that is where the cable will connect as there is no cabinet in evidence in the village. I was able to tune the SNR on my 7800N down from 9 to 5.9 resulting in a significant speed increase. If I connect up the 7800 to the new router will I still be able to use SNR 'tuning'? Also will I be able to do port forwarding through the 7800? The device being supplied is a Technicolor TG582N. At present the router is showing 7752 kbps.

If they provide you with a open reach modem, then the 7800N will work fine with FTTC.
Technicolor TG582N is a ADSL 2+ modem/router from looking at the following link
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Technicolour-TG ... B005ELFTH4
You will not be able to adjust the SNR on a FTTC line, this is not currently possible with any device
The open reach modem will sync with your line, so the 7800N will not be able to adjust your SNR
If you are using the open reach/7800N combo then you should be able to port forward without any issues, just like before

Talktalk sent the TG582N. I believe the engineer brings the BT OPenreach with himI discover. Thanks for the info.

Then you should be fine, the 7800N works fine with the open reach modemmeditek wrote:billion_fan wrote:Who is your ISP??meditek wrote:I am having FTTC connected next week. OpenReach are not allowed to provide a FTTC VDSL service directly from the exchange (OFCOM regulation) so if you are able to order FTTC then there must be a cabinet involved somewhere.
FWIW, there is a recent thread on ThinkBroadband on the the subject of exchange only lines and VDSL

Re: FTTC again!
Seems the cabinet was not in our village but on a main road about a mile away. Any way my speed has doubled to a paltry 12.x mbps. Points to note :-
1. the 7800N did not work as an internet connection despite showing the same network settings as the Technicolor TG582n. - Rather odd? I set it up exactly as described elsewhere ppoe via Ewan etc and MS diagnostics said all was OK.
2. The wifi signal was vastly better the the 7800n, penetrating our old walls splendidly as long as it was laid flat and not hung on the wall. Interesting I thought. So I am sticking with the £16 one.

The 7800N should work, lots of other users here are using it in EWAN mode with BT and other ISP's.meditek wrote:Seems the cabinet was not in our village but on a main road about a mile away. Any way my speed has doubled to a paltry 12.x mbps. Points to note :-

Did you use the 'Basic >> WAN' mode to setup the device, once you change the main port to 'EWAN' and also chnage the 'Protocol' to 'PPPOE' then enter your ISP broadband username and password, and click on 'Apply' the modem will save and reboot, which is must when making any WAN changes on the 7800N

That is exactly what I did. However, I did not pursue it as the TG582n had vastly better wifi.
