Set up with Sky issue

Post by Scoobs93 »

Hi
Got moved to Sky from O2 only to find Ky hub is a real poor performer so invested in the 7800dxl.
Have obtained my Sky login and password but now unable to register Billion router to Sky network.

FAIL
Unable to get through the WAN set up.
Any suggestions?
Do I need to tweak any settings anywhere.
Oh, have taken the 101 out of the set up completely.

Thanks

I assume you are on ADSL is that correct??

Have you tried setting the router up with a PPPOA connection (for ADSL only)

I am indeed only ADSL. Just got an old copper line. Fibre not yet planned for us.
Haven't set anything up other than using the Quick Start, which is where I'm failing to connect.
So could you tell me, in as simplistic terms as possible please, what I might have to change?
Thanks

Make sure the vpi/vci is set to 0/38

Make sure the protocol/type is set to PPPOA

If this fails click on 'Status >> WAN' under the 'pppoa0' 'Interface' check to see if it states 'Authentication Fail' if it does, this means the username and password is incorrect.

Also you can try 'IP Over Ethernet' (MPOA/MER) the setup is within the UK quick start guide that came with the device

Did your router come with the printed "UK Quick Installation Guide" (it has a glossy cover), on page 8, point number 4, it covers some specifics for setting up the router for Sky users.

Well I'm baffled!
Tried PPPoA and iP over Ethernet as described in the Glossy which came with the 7899dxl.
I continually get "FAIL" WAN setting is not successful.
Have sourced Sky login and password with both Wireshark and Cocoa Packet Analyser. Both give same answer !
Something I'm doing must be fundamentally wrong.
Any further thoughts.
Cheers.

Typo. Read 7800DXL not 7899DXL.
It's late!
