Trouble with Dell & DHCP

Post by Gerynant24 »

I have a Dell Inspiron and whenever I try to connect to my 7800 via a cable I seem to crash the DHCP server in the Billion router.

None of the other devices in my home (of which I have many, cameras, Sky box, pads/phones etc) ever seem to have a problem, but this seems to happen almost every time with the computer.

I've tried fixed IP addresses by MAC address, switching off IPv6 but to no avail.

Has anyone any ideas? The only way I seem to manage is by switching off the WiFi first, then restarting with only the cable. This is fine until I forget and then I seem to crash the DHCP server.

I've updated the router, the laptop BiOS, the WiFi card drivers, the Network card drivers, yet still the system can't seem to sort out 2 IP address requests from the same computer. Surely this isn't really a problem to do, or is it??

Help! :(

What is shown within the system log?? You might need to set a static IP to a computer so you can access the routers system log once the issue has occured
