O2 to Sky: cannot adjust the noise margin

Post by Brian49 »

Since being switched from O2 to Sky Broadband Pro, I can no longer use my Billion 7800 to set the downstream noise margin by the usual method. No matter what setting I try, after rebooting the router the margin stubbornly stays at 6dB. This means that the maximum downstream connection speed I can get is 18 meg, whereas I could usually get 21 meg or more with O2 by minimising the noise margin. I called the Sky helpline, but they told me that they have no control over the noise margin. My line is very stable and very quiet, so there is simply no need for a high noise margin.

I would be very grateful for advice on how to resolve this problem, please. Many thanks.

It seems your line has been capped to the 6db profile, so any settings you try and change regarding the SNR, will be overridden by the DLSAM
