Is anyone using 1.06f on their UK 7800N router? I installed it and it worked, but I don't know if the only difference is the English or there's technical changes too. I mean, their 1.06e is different to our 1.06e but is the only difference the language and it will actually function fine? Surely if the changes were radical enough our UK firmware would have it's own set of bugs, but from looking at the change logs our 1.06e has identical changes to Australia's 1.06e.
Changes:
01. Allow LAN user to use WAN IP to access the service provided by UPnP.
02. Fix issue whereby SNMP doesn't show correct statistics.
03. Fix issue whereby GRE can't be built up because of inappropriate netmask settings.
04. Eliminate the IPv6 GW field input if the protocol is MPoA.
05. Fix IPv6 ND Proxy issue.
06. Simplify the PPTP Username field checking.
07. Support more protocol selections on the port mapping page.
08. Fix issue whereby 3G usage might cause 3G call to fail.
09. Enhancements to IPsec.
10. Fix virtual server issue whereby more than 2 rules can't be added using IE browser.

Should I use 1.06e or is it safe to stick with 1.06f and have the extra bugs fixed?
Also where is the source code for the UK version? It's GPL licensed.

Re: 1.06f on UK router
Going by the Support site http://www.billion.uk.com/esupport/ 1.06f hasn't been released yet although we've been told on the forum a number of times, that it would be released soon.
Some users had used the Aussie 1.06e while waiting for the UK version without any reported problems, but Billion have always advised against it.
There must be some difference because the 7800N had to be adapted (so I'd read) to the UK's broadband before it could go on sale here. Whether it had to conform to some regs or not I don't know, but it's possible the basic infrastructure of the two could be different but with similar/same updates thereon in.

Re: 1.06f on UK router
It's all a little odd as I've never owned a router that needs firmware specific to it's region. Take Netgear for example, they sell the same router in Australia as they do here and it's using the same firmware so why would Billion UK need to change anything? If they were to post the firmwares source code like they have done in Australia then I'd be able to find out the answer to that in under 5 minutes.
I noticed that a few people in various threads are saying that 1.06e has a few issues and that 1.06d is the better firmware. Is this true, does 1.06e freeze up after a week?

Re: 1.06f on UK router
It's true that some have had issues with the 1.06e f/w and reverting back to 1.06d resolved that, while for others, the issue remained.
For myself, just being a basic user I've never had any problems with either the d which it had when bought, or the e.
As for the lack of universality I don't have an answer, perhaps billion_fan could take this up and give you a better explanation.

From units that I have seen running 1.06g from either the global website or from AU (not sure which) do not have PPTP VPN added, so this and wireless settings and WAN settings are the difference between UK firmware and global/AU firmware.Jimmy06 wrote:I too am unsure why the GPL has not been released and would like an answer for this
I also have GPL code, it is large so need to think of place where to post it.

I'm more interested in moding the 1.06g firmware to allow NAT/No-Nat

Why not gitbub.com, codeplex.com or sourceforge.net? I'm sure some developers could find and fix bugs if the code was in a repo. That'd allow everyone with a 7800N to benefit from it.billion_fan wrote:Jimmy06 wrote:I also have GPL code, it is large so need to think of place where to post it.
