Port Forwarding - what am I missing...

Hello,

I'm hoping this is me just missing something obvious.

I'm trying to set up port forwarding on my 7800N so I can connect to my Security Camera on IP address 192.168.0.11. I've gone to 'Virtual Server' > 'Port mapping' and created a rule (screen shot attached) but in case you can't view it the rule is:

Application: HTTP
Protocol: TCP/UDP
External Port: 80
Internal IP Address: 192.168.0.11
Internal Port: 80
Time Schedule: Always on

I know the IP of 192.168.0.11 is correct and working as I can access it directly locally. I know my IP isn't blocking the ports as I can access the remote access on port 8080.

When I port scan my external IP adddress it says that port 80 is blocked?

What am I missing?

Check the 'Default Gateway' on the device (IP CAM) to ensure it points to the routers IP address

Hello,

I've checked that and it's fine. If I go to 192.168.0.11 it all works perfectly if I try and connect from my external IP it just timesout...

Have you tried to put the device into DMZ, incase it uses other ports that are not forwarded

Hello,

Yes just tried that - still times out. A port scan still shows that port 80 is closed/not reposnding.

Well there must be something wrong (within the network environment) as DMZ/port forwarding it working without any reported issues, I just port forwarded port 80 to my win 7 machine, (windows firewall off) and ran a port scan and the ports showed as open (screen shot attached)

Does your IP cam have a static IP set on it?

Have you tried to use DHCP or the Fixed Host (within the router) option to see if that helps? Once the IP cam has its new IP, adjust the virtual server rule and test port forwarding again.

they way i do it with my ipcam is as follows

get the mac address of the device and put the device in dhcp mode. On the router in the Fixed DHCP section put the mac address of the ipcam as a fixed ip ( or preferred as some people call it)

e.g

aa:bb:cc:22:33:44 would be 192.168.1.11

Then on the ipcam reboot to get the DHCP to pick it up and assign it the ip you gave it on the router.

Then i always use another port than 80, just saves so many issues in the long run.

Then setup as you have done virtual IP with the port forwarding from ( here you have 2 options )

EXTERNAL PORT ( something other than 80 ) forwards to internal port 192.168.1.11:80 or 192.168.1.11:SOMETHINGELSE

You need to make sure these settings on your router match up in the ipcam in terms of what port the ipcam is sharing its output to.

I have multiple ipcams running this way.
