8800AXL Issues with BT Fibre

Post by a5ian300zx »

Hi,

I bought two of these one for my nephew who is on a Virgin 150Mb connection and the other for myself and I am on BT Fibre 78Mb connection. the issue I have is with my setup.

old Setup
BT Modem -> Billion 7800n

new setup
Billion 8800AXL

Now I have it all configured and the wireless is working fine in sense of range (not as good as the Billion 7800n) and speed, the issue is when i load web pages and download it seems much slower than before. with the old setup i could download at 9.5Mb max and now with new setup 5.5-6.5Mb max.

also the webpages take ages to load I have tested it on PC (connected via Ethernet to Billion), two tablets (Ipad and Samsung), and two phones all with same results. Can i adjust the SNR value? if so how does this work?

also the second issue i have it with WOL feature on the router (at last host labels) I have a Qnap nas but it does not pick up the mac address on the field and even if i enter it manually it does not do anything, if i click on the wake on lan button its like it presses all of the buttons at once but nothing happens.

Normally there use to be good firmware updates from Billion (especially on the 7800n) but with this product it seems like its been out since April with No updates what so ever.

any help would be appreciated as i don't really want to send the product back.

Thanks

on Side note: My nephews connection with Virgin on this router is flying he hit maximum download speed on 20Mb and he also had the 7800n before this which had 100Mb Ewan where as 8800AXL uses gigabit Ewan :)

Regarding slow web pages loading have a look at this thread of other customers having the same issues with BT

Hi,

Thanks for this I also have Another issue where the wireless N performance on 2.4Ghz using Iphone 4s is shockingly bad, it can take around 30sec to 1 min to load each page.

could you please add a information field on the router with information like serial number as otherwise i need to get to my router to locate the box to for this information.

Thanks

Hi,

Update.

I have changed my isp provider to Zen Internet and all my problems have gone with downloads and pages loading.

I also did name bench test and found and added the fastest dns severs so pages load much quicker across the board of tech.

Ps. Bt is rubbish and restrict you. Loads with traffic management even though they deny it.

Thanks
