8800axl WiFi issues

Post by mojorisin »

Hi

I recently replaced my 7800n router with a 8800axl router when i upgraded to sky fibre. I am happy with the 8800axl except for some issues i am experiancing with the wifi.

I have a number of tablets, laptops, ipods and phones that connect to my wifi, i can't explain the following and would like some advice / help.

When i do speed test connections from my laptop i get 33/9 speeds, which i am happy with given i have a 40/10 line. i get the same on my ipad air, however, on my phones (iphone 5s) and other tablets (nexus 7 2013) i get something like 5/9 speeds.

These test results are taken using the same servers on speedtest, and sitting in the same place in my lounge (my router is situated upstairs in my study).

As you can see the wifi speed and coverage in itself seem fine, and i get much better speeds when i am nearer my router. But i can't understand why difference devices used in the same place offer such a wide variance in speed.

I have read in a few places (here and on an australian site - whirlpool) that the wifi on this unit is a little flakey, but i am convinced i have something not confirgured quite correctly.

I can supply settings and other information to try and resolve my issue.

I am running the firmware 232d.dm12. I can't locate any firmware at all on the www.billion.uk.comn site for this router, so i don't even know how widely support this router is in the uk.

I am currently only running the 2.4ghz wifi in order to trouble shoot this issue, once i have fixed this i would also like to activate the 5ghz for my apple devices.

All I can suggest is changing the channel the router outputs on.

AS other devices are working fine, regarding speeds, it going to be hard to pin point the issue

2.32dm12 is latest firmware for you device, hence the reason being there is no firmware on our website.

Also if you feel brave try changing the 'Bandwidth' over to 20/40mhz which = 300mbps

Thanks, i will try other wifi channels, currently i have tried a few with the same results. I have also run insider to check for channel clashes and the channels i have tried are coming us as no clashes with other wifi in my road.
I am also running 20/40ghz frequencey, I tried both 20 & 20/40 with the same results.

We just tested a nexus 10 tab with the 8800AXL on the 2.4ghz band and the speeds were normal with both 20mhz and 20mhz/40mhz
