MTU of 1492 or 1500 for FTTC?

Post by gyrester »

I'm confused. :)

On this forum it says to use a MTU of 1492 for VDSL. Some other forums say to use 1500 for a combined VDSL modem/router.

Which should I be using?

Thanks!

1492 as you have an an extra overhead on ppoe.
If you have problems loading https sites try lower.
say 1450

Thanks. 1492 seems to be working fine for me.

One of the reasons I asked was that I've just moved from a 2 box setup that used a draytek 2920 router and a 8800nl in bridge mode, to just using a 8800nl alone, and wondered if the MTU could be raised as both the router and modem were now combined.

Turns out that the question is moot. The gui wouldn't allow a MTU greater than 1492 to be entered :)
