USB setup

Post by dingbat75 »

Hi all

Just bought 8800AXL and complete newbie to everything Billion.

I have recently updated to the latest f/w when the 2.4g wifi wouldn't activate.

My current issue is that I have external hdd usb drive that I want to access on different devices, I have setup as per the instructions in manual but I'm unable to access any files on the drive, all it shows is public shared and billion shared folder that the router has created and they're empty, files and folders doesn't show

In windows I type http://192.168.1.254 log in and all is shown is the shared folders mentioned and nothing else, how do I get access to my files on the drive through the router?

Restart your windows machine, then attempt to connect to your USB device, once prompted for the username and password use 'admin' as the username and the same password you set for the routers web gui access (http://192.168.1.254), eg 'admin' and 'admin', you should then be able to navigate through the folders and find all files located on your device

Yes you need to enable the 'On-board digital media server' if you plan on using the 'DLNA feature

Hi, no joy I am unable to access the files stored on my external hdd, it has a mixture of music, images and video other files. My HDD is a transcend 3tb usb 3.0 drive, NTFS file system

It is recognised in the storage device info and have created a user account and enabled DLNA On-board digital media server

In my laptop, Click Start > Run, enter \\192.168.1.254 network window opens just showing two shared folders both empty; public and test(user account name). I assume these folders are generated when I created user account?

Why are no files stored on the drive showing?

I want to be able to access across my network either wired or wireless

Here what I did,

1. Restart your computer
2. Click on Start >> Run >> \\192.168.1.254
3. You should see a public folder
4. Double click on it and use your admin username and password eg 'admin' and 'admin'
5. Double click on the usb1_1_share folder
6. The folder will be blank, now click on the back button twice so you are back the route folder for your device
7. Now double click on your 'admin' folder and double click on the usb1_1 folder
8. You should see all your stored files
9. Map this folder

Its not that complicated once you know how (security reasons being the issue), its just the admin access that's needed, once setup once, you won't have to run through it again

tried this all works upto step 7, when i double click on my 'admin' folder it remains empty no usb1_1 folder

still at a loss with this, i have even tried factory resetting the router and repeating the process with same results, i have tried with a usb stick again same result

I feel as if something is missing, the router isn't allowing access to the files on the usb drive

sharing is enabled on the drive and i have admin level access
