Thanks again pal
Yep thats right, on your VPN tunnel you have a option to 'Use Default Gateway on Remote Network' if this option is enabled then all traffic will be routed through your VPN tunnel and when you check your IP address http://www.whatsmyip.org/
it should show your 7800N WAN IP address eg 89.xxx.xxx.xxx.
Thanks again thats really helped me out heaps! I must admit i have heard that PPTP is not the most secure mean of VPN, do you think that future billion routers might start to support openvpn? Im off to Dubai for a few weeks soon and i wanted to vpn to my home billion router just to be a little safer as all the hotel wifi out there is insecure, do you think PPTP will be ok for that or would i be better looking into an actuasl vpn service?
Sorry to hear your a gooner not a good time at the mo hey! Mind you its not been a good time for some years now has it............

I think using MS-Chap V2 for normal things like BBC iPlayer etc should be fine
Cool thanks again for your kind help really appreciate it.
Looks like im all good to go now, the only downer is that the vpn on my iphone wont let me manually assaign DNS so although i can connect to my Billion fine through it i dont have internet access. I did see someone mention an app you can use on a jail broken iphone to cure the issue but i dont have one of those Hopefully in the future there may be an option for this
If i connect to the billion vpn from my local desktop machine on my lan (while im at home) is everything that i do on the web then encrypted or not? Wasn't sure how it worked as im not actually dialling into the billion router from another network outside my lan if you see what i mean.

Sorry for sounding dumb here
This should be internal, if you are dialing into the IP address 192.168.1.254, but there is no point in doing this, you are creating a loop in the network, as you are already connected to the network, then you are dialing into the network again.
Makes perfect sense that is indeed pointless. I guess if i wanted to use a vpn service from my home network out to the world wide web id be better of looking at an actual vpn provider or perhaps setting up a proxy

Yep, but the 7800N VPN Client function will route taffic over the tunnel, there is no option to do so, your best bet is to install the VPN client on each device to make sure they route traffic through the VPN tunnel.
